The First-Phase of the world largest combined Hydrogen from waste and activated carbon plant is a few months from operation
The plant is serviced by Norfolk Southern Class I railroad network with inter-facility services handled by DeGol owned entity.
The RODECS unit is capable of generating 20 TPD of fuel cell hydrogen
The planned, World’s largest Super Green Hydrogen from waste plant (36,500 tonnes per year of hydrogen), producing fuel-cell grade hydrogen took another step forward towards realization with the commencement of the work on Phase-1 of the hydrogen from waste plant, which involves the upgrading the PA RODECS® plant to produce syngas while processing activated carbon.
Post successful operation of the large-scale RODECS® unit, processing unprocessed waste and producing hydrogen-rich syngas for power generation, the plant is being upgraded to process activated carbon as phase-1 producing syngas, before adding the fuel-cell hydrogen production capability using the combined Chinook patented RODECS® technology, the Active HydroPyrolysis™ process and the companies Hydrogen Intelligence™ system.
Chinook Hydrogen and the DeGol Organization signed an agreement to invest into building the World’s largest combined hydrogen from waste and activated carbon facilities at the DeGol Industrial Center, one of the largest industrial sites in Pennsylvania, over multiple phases, staring with production of syngas while processing activated carbon, then progressing towards the production of Chinook carbon negative Super Green Hydrogen™.
The plant is being designed to produce 100 tonnes per day of Super Green Hydrogen™, ™, capable of supplying clean CO2-emission free hydrogen, enough to fuel over 193,000 cars or provide hydrogen needed to produce 730,000 tonnes per year of green steel. The plant is also capable of removing 550,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, which is equivalent to removing cir. 120,000 petrol cars from the roads. Plant operations is targeted to remove the equivalent levels of CO2 to 313,000 cars from the roads, saving a total of 1,440,000 tonnes/year of CO2.
Dr. Chalabi, CEO and Chairman of Chinook Hydrogen
“This project is a monumental step forward in sustainable energy, the first of its kind in the USA, and we are immensely proud of our collaboration with the DeGol Organization on this transformative project. By integrating advanced technologies like our RODECS® system and Active HydroPyrolysis™, we're not just addressing waste management but also making a major contribution to global decarbonization, producing emission free, carbon negative hydrogen, along with bio carbon, and activated carbon. Our joint commitment to innovation and sustainability is crucial as we work towards building a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.”
Bruno DeGol Jr, CEO of the DeGol organization
“We are proud to partner with Chinook Hydrogen on this groundbreaking initiative. Investing in the world's largest combined hydrogen from waste and activated carbon facility here in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania is testament to our dedication to environmental stewardship and economic development towards building infrastructure projects in the State of Pennsylvania with the generation of local green-collar jobs. Together; we are setting a new standard for energy production that promises significant environmental and community benefits.”
Stephen McKnight, CEO and President of the Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation (ABCD Corp.)
“Pennsylvania is embracing a groundbreaking initiative with the proposed construction of a Super Green Hydrogen from waste plant to be built in Hollidaysburg. This ambitious project has the full support of ABCD Corp. and sets out to meet the decarbonization objectives of the State Governor’s Action Team through the deployment of low carbon hydrogen for State industrial applications needed for the production of Green Steel. The development builds upon the success of the construction of the initial waste to value plant installed by Chinook Hydrogen and The DeGol Organization and not only underpins the State's commitment to environmental sustainability but also heralds a new era of economic prosperity. Such a site attracts State-level initiatives and incentives; this venture promises to bring a surge of employment opportunities, injecting vitality into Blair County and its local communities. Moreover, by harnessing the potential of waste to produce green hydrogen, Pennsylvania is set to position itself as a pioneer in renewable energy technologies, earning both national and international prestige. With increased investment flowing into the region, the State stands on the cusp of a transformative journey towards a greener and prosperous future.”
