COP 28 Conference

BEEAH, Chinook Hydrogen, and Air Water Gas Solutions have inaugurated the world's first Super Green Hydrogen from Waste Demonstration plant in Nottingham, UK, and subsequently signed a joint development agreement at COP28 to build a commercial-scale waste-to-hydrogen plant in Sharjah, UAE. The demonstration plant has proven to be a technical and operational success, showcasing the viability and scalability of producing green hydrogen from waste in a carbon-negative process. The plant employs Chinook Hydrogen's RODECS® pyrolysis technology and Air Water's advanced hydrogen refinement technology to convert various organic wastes into high purity hydrogen, suitable for transportation and industrial applications.

The planned commercial-scale plant in Sharjah will begin with an initial capacity of seven tonnes of hydrogen per day, with ambitions to expand to 20 tonnes per day, supporting the UAE's Net-Zero by 2050 Pathway. BEEAH's integrated waste management complex is already contributing to landfill waste diversion and the circular economy, and the waste-to-hydrogen plant is set to further these efforts. This aligns with the UAE National Hydrogen Strategy 2050, which aims to position the nation as a leading hydrogen hub with an annual production target of 1.4 million tonnes of hydrogen by 2031.
